The Naples Botanical Garden is the Place to Be

The Naples Botanical Garden at 4820 Bayshore Drive offers a variety of relaxing events for all ages, said the Naples Daily News.

The Garden is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Mondays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. Admission is free for members; $12.95 for adults; $7.95 for children ages 4 to 14; and free for children 3 and younger.

Jazz in the Garden

From 2-4 p.m. on Sunday March 2, don’t miss the Naples Sunshine Jazz Band in an afternoon of 1920s-inspired jazz with a roaring salute to Mardi Gras. Guests will have to pay regular Garden admission and bring their own seating.

Nature Connects

Art with LEGO Bricks: Enjoy 27 enchanting nature-inspired LEGO brick sculptures creating 14 displays exhibited throughout the Garden. Crafted by LEGO brick sculpture artist Sean Kenney, these one-of-a-kind pieces are built with nearly 500,000 LEGO bricks.

Exhibits will be on view through May 11.

Dogs in the Garden Walk

The family and Fido can visit the Garden and enjoy a canine-friendly atmosphere (except the Children’s Garden) during designated dog-walk hours. One dog per adult is allowed and guests will have to pay $7.95 for nonmember dogs.

Dog-walk hours: 9 to 11 a.m. Sundays; 8 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays; 3 to 5 p.m. Thursdays

Bringing Nature Home with Douglas Tallamy, Ph.D from 10-11 a.m.

Join Douglas Tallamy Ph.D., author of “Bringing Nature Home,” a landmark book that explains why native plants serve our wildlife best. Tickets are $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers.

Naples Orchid Society’s Plant Doctor from 1-4 p.m.

Ask the orchid experts. Bring in your orchid or reliable photo for a diagnosis and to learn tips to encourage your orchid to grow healthier and bloom more beautifully. Free to the public.

Yoga in the Garden: 10 a.m.

This is a very popular event. The Botanical Gardens recommends getting there at 9:30 a.m.

The Garden hosts a weekly outdoor yoga class, led by a Bala Vinyasa Yoga instructor and hosted on the Kapnick Caribbean Garden Lawn. The pace is okay for beginners, but bringing your own yoga mat is advised. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for nonmembers.

Tuesday

Early bird hours:

Every Tuesday, gates will open at 8 a.m. for photographs, use of the walking trails or bird watching. Regular Garden admission will apply; free to members.

Basics of Nature Photography:

Focus on Composition: 8-10:30 a.m.

Master Naturalist and photographer, Christine Cook, Ph.D., will illustrate successful techniques in the classroom and guide your practice in the Garden (additional sessions offered March 11, 18, and 25); $30 for members, $35 for others. Call 239-643-7275 to register.

Walking group: 9 a.m.

A get-moving program will guide you to the path of better health with health and fitness instruction and activities.

Master gardener’s plant clinic: 9 a.m. to noon from 1 to 4 p.m. at the visitor’s center.

Mike Malloy, plant and butterfly expert, will answer questions about plant health, landscaping and more. This is a free event.

Tai-Chi in the Garden:

10 a.m. Instructor Karen McNeil will host this energy-flow exercise in the South Grove of the Garden.

Participants are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early for registration and “travel time” to the South Grove.

Suggested attire: hat, stable and firm shoes (no flip-flops) and sunscreen. $10 for members; $15 for others (includes Garden admission).
